Capitel

Conceived as a fragment of architecture, Capitel reinterprets the classical Corinthian capital, with its distinctive acanthus leaves and the dialogue between nature and ornament.

Extruded elements are combined with slip-cast forms, bringing together different ways of making within a single sculptural object. Shaped by hand and by the movement of the clay, repeated forms develop into individual patterns, making each piece unique.

Like a colonnade, the series brings together objects that share a common language, yet are each different in their form and surface.

Glazed and unglazed surfaces sit alongside one another, creating variations in texture, depth and the way light falls across the forms.

The work explores the meeting point between architecture, nature and ornament, reinterpreting a familiar architectural form through material, movement and making.
