Victorian Garden

Date: 2022
Location: North London
Client/ Landscaping: K. Aradi

The garden of a classic Victorian house in North London has been thoughtfully redesigned to bring together craftsmanship, material quality, and subtle artistic detail.

Perforated and solid Ketley Staffordshire Blue bricks form the retaining walls, borders, and stair risers, providing a strong and timeless framework for the landscape.

Architect and ceramic artist Maria Gasparian introduced decorative glazed brick elements to complement the monochrome brickwork. Created using standard bricks, these bespoke pieces bring patterns, texture and subtle colour with tones drawn from the surrounding planting.

Around the central herbal bed, custom-patterned textured bricks created by the artist in collaboration with the manufacturer, are arranged in a radial layout adding tactile interest and a focal point within the garden.

Landscaped by the client herself, the garden now celebrates the changing seasons, with its planting palette evolving through the year.  Staffordshire Blue brickwork provides an elegant backdrop, while the green glazed surfaces catch the changing light, offering quiet points of focus and reflection.
